We wanted to cook something a little different, but it had to be quick, easy and tasty – just like most of our recipes. This ticked all the boxes. We popped it into the slow cooker that morning, got it out, thickened the sauce and served it as burgers with coleslaw. You could also add any salad filling you like.
If you wanted to go to the next level, you could make your own buns and this recipe is amazing (just form into buns), or you can speed things up and purchase your own additive-free ones.

Ingredients
- 1 brown onion
- 1 large pulled pork - or deboned pork shoulder (ask your butcher to do this ours was 1.5kg)
- 1 c tomato sauce
- 1/4 c bbq sauce
- 3 tbsp. honey
- 1 tbsp. tamari or soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
- 1 garlic clove
Instructions
- Peel and quarter onion. Add to mixing jug and blitz for 3 seconds/speed 5, or chop onion into small pieces by hand.
- Add all ingredients into your slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, or on high for 5 hours.
- Once cooked, remove the meat and discard the fat. Shred your pork apart with two forks. Set aside under some foil or in a thermal server.
- You can either turn your slow cooker to high and let the juices simmer away, with the lid OFF for an hour to two - or you can pour your juices into a pot and simmer until it reduces and thickens. This will take approx. 20 minutes (this will depend on how much juice you've got left in your slow cooker.)
- While that's simmering down, prepare your buns, perhaps make your coleslaw (recipe above), and then you're ready to dish up.
- Serve and enjoy!
Yum Yum Yum!!!! Have cooked this a few times now and always enough for some sneaky lunch tomorrow. Also works great as a topping in a noodle bowl!!! So easy and ready when you get home from school or after school sports!
Oh. my. goodness! Yummy yum yum! I love the flavours this pulled pork has, with freshly made coleslaw in a tasty bun it’s the best pulled pork burger! We had lots left over so were able to enjoy it for lunch a few days after. I’d definitely recommend you give it a go!
Oh yay, that is so awesome, thanks for the review :)
can i freeze the leftover sauce?
Sure can!
What’s the best way to store and reheat leftovers without drying out the pork?
We just freeze it in an airtight container and then reheat over a medium heat. Try and save a bit of the sauce as well to mix into it :)
I’m knew to slow cookers, just purchased one and this is my second time using it.
So do you need to turn the pork hourly, 2 hourly, half way or just leave it?
You just leave it. The slow cooker does all the work for you :)
