This roast chicken is so easy, it’s a meal you can pop on in the morning, go to work and when you get home dinner is done! LOVE THAT! The meat will literally fall away from the bones, it’s delicious!
Be sure to keep all the juice and make some gravy from it, but also keep all the bones and juice and make bone broth. The health benefits from the broth are out of this world and it’s ridiculously easy! We have a YouTube recipe on how to do it.

Highly recommend this recipe. Chicken stays really moist and it’s great simple and easy meal for busy people.
Made this and it was a massive hit! So yummy!! And then after made lots of bone broth.
Does the chicken need to be up on a trivet off the bottom!? Thanks ?
No, just straight in!
yummy! This cooks the chicken to be so moist and full of flavour. We served with with steamed veggies and it was enjoyed by the whole family. I actually cooked 2 chickens at once and we used the other one for school and work lunches in sandwiches and wraps. I love that you can pop this in the slow cooker in the morning then all that is needed to do is prepare some veggies and bam tea is ready!
Love this recipe! Beautifully moist chicken, then lob skin and bones back in the cooker and follow instructions to make chicken stock!
Cooked this yesterday., and will definitely cook it again! Lovely moist chicken, and made a nice gravy too. Had never cooked a chicken in the slow-cooker before.
Does it matter if I don’t have semolina?
No not at all, just leave it out. Jo x
What could I use instead of the onion inside the chicken pls as I can’t have onion or garlic?
Hi Tracey, Half a lemon with some herbs is always nice too. You could look to make up a stuffing minus the onion and garlic but instead some pine nuts and sultanas.
I like to put a whole lemon cut hasselback style into the cavity – it’s deli!cious
Yum!
Wow this was so easy and turned out great! Def make again. I’d prob add a teaspoon or two of salt next time for extra flavour. It would be good chucked under the grill for 10 mins to crisp up the skin too.
Made this last night and it was so delicious!! I put half a lemon in the cavity too. I’m always going to cook whole chicken like this now?✅?
I was going to ask if chicken just sits on base of cooker or on a trivet – see someone already asked but couldn’t find answer – thanks
Just straight on the base of the slow cooker.
Do you need to add water to the slow cooker for the chicken to cook in?
Thanks
No you don’t. See the note in the cooking method :)
Hi you posted a pic of this chicken today 24/6/20 with a yummy looking gravy how did you make the gravy please x
holy smokes-GAME CHANGER! SUPER EASY!!!!! i really feel like i might need a second slow cooker so i can do a chook AND other recipes from your fabulous cookbook at the same time!
Can you use a cast iron / Dutch Oven pan instead of slow cooker?
Sure can.
What temp would you cook on in the Dutch oven?
Hi Katrina,
Are you referring to a slow cooker or camp oven (cast iron)?
Shane
Hi I normally do this and it’s so moist and falls off the bone! But for some reason this time so dry? Any suggestions? :)
This chicken has found its way onto our weekly menu. So delicious and easy. Everyone loves it. And so easy to make the chicken bone broth afterwards!
This looks delicious but I don’t have a slow cooker only a wonderbag which needs the heat from the water to cook the meat. Any ideas how I could do this without a slow cooker?
Simply do it in the oven at a low temp.
