My gosh, this slice takes only 5 seconds to whip up, it will literally take you longer to get all the ingredients out of the cupboard than it will to stir together! It’s one of our most popular recipes by far and one we are sure you and your family will love 💓
It seems so easy to grab a packet mix from the supermarket or store because we know how busy life can be, but, packet mixes are often super high in sugar, expensive, and filled with unwanted additives.
We like to top this slice using our basic icing recipe and some additive-free 100 & 1000s, however, if you would like to reduce the sugar intake, you can serve with a simple dusting of cacao or natural chocolate powder.
Hints and Tips:
- the butter must be soft, even slightly melted

Yum… another all time favourite. Love the Hopper Brand 100’s & 1000’s. Always popular at kids parties or for morning tea with us Mum’s too. And as for our Husbands, I have to be careful not to let my husband eat the whole batch in one day !
Yum, yum, yum!! My go to recipe for any morning tea. So easy to whip up and always very popular with the guests.
This is a all time faviourite in my house with partner and all 4 kids (myself as well)
Quick and easy to make I have to make 2 cause 1 hardly lasts past 1 smoko ?
Family winner! Just tried the slice for first time. It’s quick and easy.
Does it freeze well??
Wow super quick and easy and ohhh sooo yummy ?
Easy and yummy! This is my go-to chocolate slice every time. It’s too easy!
Does this work with gluten free flour???
We have never tried, but I believe others have said it works. You may need to add an extra egg though :)
Does it freeze okay?
Sure does!
YUM! Super easy and a massive hit in our house.
Is there a sugar free version of this? Can I substitute rice malt syrup for the sugar?
Hi Charlene, There is no sugar-free version of this recipe. You could try the Syrup but you may need to play around with the ratio until you find the desired taste.
Is cacao better than cocoa and is any brand of flour and suger ok
Cacao is less processed than cocoa which is why we like to use it. With sugar we like raw or rapadura as it is less processed. As for flour try for an organic flour or the best quality flour you can afford.
Woukd raw sugar work okay in place of brown sugar?
Yes it would.
Hi. Is this 180c not fan forced.?
Hi Teagan,
All the temperatures in our recipes are for fan forced ovens.
