Every single day, we expose ourselves to a wide range of toxins. These toxins can come from the food we eat, the products we use, and even the air we breathe. Over time, these toxins can build up in our bodies and have a negative impact on our health. So, in this episode, we will share four things you can do today to lower your toxic load.

1. Ditch fragranced candles for essential oils

If you have candles in your home, ditch them right away. There is nothing healthy about fragranced candles. All they are doing is emitting poison into the air you breathe in. The best thing is to invest in a diffuser and opt for pure essential oils. It’s a safer and more cost-effective choice for your health… we’re talking WAAAAAYYYY more cost-effective!

2. Replace bright blue window cleaner with a DIY solution

Blue window cleaners contain heavily fragranced, chemically derived ingredients that aren’t ideal for our health. When you spray your cleaning products, (and off-topic, deodorants and an array of personal care products), they all enter your lungs. So, it’s time to make your own window/glass cleaner.

Making your own is a breeze and takes about 30 seconds. Mix three-quarters white vinegar with one-quarter filtered water in a spray bottle. You can also add pure lemon essential oil for a refreshing scent. Now, you’re all set to switch to a healthier alternative.

3. Swap carpet deodoriser for bicarb soda and essential oils

The fragrances in commercial carpet powders are most likely a chemical nightmare, so it’s time to make your own using bicarbonate soda and essential oils. The bicarb absorbs any gross smells, which is also effective for pets and toilet grout.

Sprinkle the bicarb and essential oil mixture over your carpets, leaving it to sit for an extended period if needed. Overnight works well for deep odour absorption. Vacuum it up the next day for refreshed, artificial fragrance-free carpets.

4. Eliminate fabric softener for vinegar and oils

Vinegar works! It can remove bad odors from socks and gym gear without the harmful chemicals of fabric softeners. Just put a splash of vinegar into the fabric softener section in your washing and it will work a treat! No, it doesn’t damage your seals or your washing machine and it won’t leave your clothes smelling like vinegar. You can also put essential oils in with the vinegar to naturally fragrance your clothes if you want. Additional bonus tip, you can also use vinegar in your dishwasher instead of rinse aid! Just fill the rinse aid section with vinegar.
