Living an additive-free lifestyle is hard. Making healthier choices every day can be challenging, especially if surrounded by great-tasting foods filled with preservatives and additives. It can also be expensive for some people. But for some of us, it’s a clear necessity to live a normal life. Kate Mason has been living additive-free for the past 18 years, and in this episode, she will share her additive-free journey.

Meet Kate Mason

Kate Mason is ‘Australia’s personality coach’. An international keynote speaker, presenter, and coach, she is passionate about helping people understand their personalities to gain resilience and confidence. She believes that once you know who you are, you can connect with everyone in life.

Kate Mason’s journey

Her journey started with her husband having bad migraines and their kids suffering from severe asthma. They tried lots of treatments, but nothing worked. One day, Kate went to a talk by Sue Dengate about how food additives and colors can make people sick. This talk was a big eye-opener for her. She realised that her family’s problems might be because of the foods they were eating.

Kate and her husband decided to throw out a lot of their food and started eating things that didn’t have certain ingredients and additives that could cause problems, like salicylates and amines. This change made a huge difference. Her daughter stopped feeling so sad and stopped crying at night. Her son’s migraines got better, and her husband’s migraines went away, too.

How Kate prepares food

Kate is not fond of cooking. But because of the necessity, she has crafted a straightforward and health-conscious cooking routine. She primarily engages in slow-roasting meats and heavily utilizes frozen vegetables.

When it comes to enhancing their flavours, Kate is not afraid of using good oils and butter, and primarily uses salt, pepper, chives, and rosemary to garnish her foods. She emphasises the importance of simplicity in meals and tailors her cooking to her family’s preferences.

She advocates making food from scratch to avoid additives and emphasises the significance of understanding individual dietary needs and the importance of exercise.

Conclusion

Kate’s story shows how changing what we eat can really change our health and mood. She became passionate about telling people how important it is to watch what we eat, especially when it comes to things like food colours and additives. By keeping her food simple, she was able to come up with a system that allows her to cook her family’s food daily, without interrupting her entire lifestyle.
