Ever felt like you’re swimming in a sea of toxins? They’re everywhere… from the clothes we wear to the food we eat. But here’s the thing: if we want a healthier life for ourselves and our kiddos, we might need to switch up some of our daily products. Let’s dive in!

How Much Toxic Exposure Do We Have?

Shockingly, we’re introduced to a world brimming with chemicals from the very moment we’re conceived. A groundbreaking study spearheaded by the Environmental Working Group unveiled a startling discovery: 287 harmful chemicals lurking in the umbilical cord blood of newborns.

You can find that study HERE.

Imagine, these tiny beings already exposed to toxins from mum’s clothes, those cosy towels, and snug bedding! And the culprits don’t stop there.

The convenience of our fast-food packaging – think plastics, straws, and those takeaway containers filled with BPA – all add to this chemical cocktail. Even the non-stick charm of our favorite Teflon pans has a dark side; they house ‘forever chemicals’ that never break down.

And let’s not forget the silent offenders: pesticides, sneaking in through the food we eat and the air we breathe. It’s a wake-up call for our modern world! We owe it to our children to be incredibly curious about this from the moment they’re conceived (and probably even before that).

Side Effects of Harmful Chemicals

Here are the hidden dangers that we face daily! Of the 287 chemicals found in newborns’ umbilical cord blood, 180 can cause cancer, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 might cause birth defects or abnormal development.

On average, women use 12 personal care products daily, exposing them to about 168 chemicals. For men, it’s around 6 products leading to an exposure of approximately 85 chemicals.

Even more concerning is that teenagers use about 17 personal care products daily. A study on 20 teenagers found 16 hormone-altering chemicals in their blood. These chemicals might be the culprits behind increasing hormone-related illnesses and conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, infertility, and thyroid problems in both males and females. Men’s fertility is notably declining at a worrying rate.

It’s crucial for us parents to be informed and cautious about the potential harm these chemicals may pose to our children’s health.
