If you haven’t listened to last week’s Part 1 – Podcast Episode 189, we suggest you do so now because we are continuing on with our talk with Chelsey Jean from Chelsey Jean Lymphatics.

Chelsey is a Sports Therapist, Naturopathic Practitioner, and the creator of the Advanced Natural Health Clinic and her own label of products.

Can you use lymphatic drainage to support the healing of an injury?

Absolutely! In fact, Chelsey is a little controversial in how she supports injuries because she doesn’t recommend using ice. Ice slows down the flow of blood, which then inhibits healing and promotes good flow around the injury.

Instead, she uses compression and elevation to promote flow as well as incorporating dry bushing to promote the flow of the lymph.

Jo last year was training very heavily for a half Iron Man event and suffered a few injuries along the way. Tracey kept telling her to make sure she was dry body brushing every day, but hey, what does the big sister know? haha

Turns out this is what Jo should have been doing because the dry body brushing would have moved the lymph around the body as it should and supported her body both reactively through injury and proactively to try and avoid it.

It’s really important to listen to our bodies and take notice of the clues it’s giving us, especially when something is wrong or not working optimally.

How can we encourage others to dry body brush and understand its amazing benefits?

People only usually hear things when they need to, so the best way is to be the example and keep doing what you’re doing. They may get there eventually, but unfortunately, you can’t make anyone do anything. So just go about your life doing what you do best and being the best version of yourself and it will rub off on others.

Just make sure you don’t carry the burdens of others in your life because that will stop you shining even brighter.  Everyone has their own lessons to learn and you’re not responsible for that.

Live your truth and shine as bright as you can because that light will shine bright for others when their light has dimmed.

How can you support period pain with dry brushing?

Chelsey has a range of creams that you can use and one of the main ingredients in her lymphatic cream is castor oil which is really great for period pain.

She also has a magnesium spray with MSM in it which is also good for pain.

In fact, Chelsey has just had a hysterectomy in January 2023 because her uterus was 10x the size it should have been due to fibroids. One fibroid was the size of a baby’s head!

The biggest takeaway, if you are suffering through your periods or maybe from perimenopause, is to get your hormone levels checked.

The thing we don’t realise is that our toxic load can be quite high, especially if you are wearing clothes and underwear that contain plastics that leech into our system.  It’s particularly interesting to note that activewear is clothing that can contain a lot of plastics.

Before having her surgery Chelsey did a complete hormone panel test called the ‘Dutch test’ which showed that her oestrogen and progesterone levels were pretty much at zero, however, she was not experiencing the symptoms that you normally would when these levels are so low.  Her body was getting pumped with synthetic hormones from the toxic load her body was experiencing.

This is why it’s incredibly important to get a complete hormone test done which you can organise through your Naturopath.  Being aware of your levels can lead to getting help on how to correct them.

What does Chelsey do in her clinics?

They treat clients with all sorts of issues such as lipoedema, lymphoedema, weight loss, cellulite, energy level issues, thyroid issues, and many others.

The most important thing they do is ask a series of questions of the patients to get a full history and understanding of what they want to improve in their health and life.  From there they work out what is stopping the patient from being able to do what they want to do in life so they can work on the blockages.

So, not only is it a lymphatic treatment but it also involves education for the patient.

A session involves the patient laying face up on the table with just their underwear on (bra off), and they start by activating the lymphatic points in the body at the chest, belly, and top of legs. After this, they follow on with the lymphatic massage sequence.  The therapists are trained to see where the main blockages in the body are, but they will always start at the chest and move to the area of concern.

After this, they will use the compression garments which is like a suit you wear on certain parts of your body, but you don’t have to wear the whole suit. For example, if someone is blocked up in their chest then they will wear the compression sleeves on their arms.  If they’re blocked in the tummy or hips then they will wear the compression shorts.

They will then lie with the compression suit on for half an hour which will give a gentle rhythmic flow of re-educating the lymphatic system on how it should move.  It is also working on the parasympathetic system (the flight or fight system) because you need to be relaxed at the same time.

Whilst the suit is being worn the therapist will work on the face and do a glymphatic massage for about 10 minutes or so and then leave the patient to relax in the suit for the remaining 20 minutes.

BooBCamP runs for 3 days once a month where you will learn how to do the lymphatic massage sequence. You will also learn lots of other important things for good health as well as live expert interviews.

It’s run through the BooBCamP Chelsey Jean Lymphatics Facebook Group.

A massive thanks to Chelsey for sharing all her wisdom with us. It has really opened our eyes to the importance of our lymphatic system and the vital role it plays in our body.
