doTERRA has released a cleaning range of products and we have had lots of questions about it, so here’s all you need to know.

We love to DIY our cleaning products so that we can keep our homes as tox-free as possible, and whilst DIY cleaning products only take a few minutes to make, we still have these products because they are part of our toolkit to make our lives easier.

It is a super clean ingredient range and, as we have said many times before, we would NEVER promote a product or align with a company we didn’t wholeheartedly believe in.

So… what’s in the range?

  1. Liquid Laundry Detergent
  2. Powdered Laundry Detergent
  3. Multi-Purpose Surface Spray
  4. Dishwashing Liquid

So, let’s take a deep dive into each one…

This powder has THREE ingredients, other than oils – Sodium Percarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate.

Three that is it!!!

That is unheard of in any other low tox laundry powder. Nothing in the supermarket is this ‘clean’, so unless you are DIYing then this is literally the next best thing.

Because it only has three ingredients (other than oils) it can be used in so many other ways around the house…

Here are a few:

👉🏻 Turn the laundry powder into dishwasher powder

Other than essential oils, there are only three ingredients in this laundry powder – and all three of them are powerful cleaning agents.

Sodium Percarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate.

To make dishwasher powder, in a large mixing bowl add:
2 cups laundry powder
1 cup citric acid
1 cup finely ground salt

Carefully mix it all together and add a teaspoon or two to each dishwasher load.

There is no need to add any essential oils, but if you wanted to, add a few drops of lemon to each load.

Using white vinegar in your rinse aid section also helps to give that extra shine to glasses and plates, plus it gives everything an extra rinse clean to make sure that there is no residue.

👉🏻 Use it as a laundry soaker

Have you looked at the main ingredients in most soakers available – Napisan for example… the reason they use terms like Oxi Action is because the key ingredient is sodium percarbonate (you won’t know the other ingredients as they are not listed, they are most likely to be fillers of some kind and fragrances, neither of which are good for you or the environment).

However, the new doTERRA Clean Laundry Powder lists all the ingredients. Here is a breakdown of the powders for you.

  • Sodium Percarbonate is a powder that releases hydrogen peroxide and soda ash. It is 100% active – making it a very powerful cleaner, it is also an effective sanitiser and it helps to whiten whites. It works by releasing oxygen once it is exposed to water. This release of oxygen lifts stains and dirt off whatever you’re cleaning.
  • Sodium Carbonate (washing soda) is a key ingredient in many laundry powders. It easily removes dirt, grease, and grime and helps to soften fabrics.
  • Sodium Bicarbonate (bicarb soda) is found in many food recipes, but it is also amazing for deodorizing and cleaning, perfect for use in the laundry and around the house.

To use as a laundry soaker:
Add 1/3 cup of powder into 5 litres of water, stir to combine, and dissolve the powder. Add clothes and ensure everything is under the water level, add more water if needed.

If your fabrics allow, use hot water as this works the best – perfect for soaking nappies or reusable sanitary items, as well as tea towels and face washers.

Be careful with darker colours and always refer to your washing instructions.

👉🏻 Other hints, tips, and hacks to use the laundry powder around the house…

Given the powerful cleaning agents in the laundry powder, along with the fact it is earth-friendly, antibacterial, and antiseptic, it has no phosphates, ammonia, synthetic colours, fragrances, or preservatives, it makes sense that you can use it in many areas around the house.

  • Add a sprinkle into the toilet bowl and give a little scrub to remove hard water stains.
  • Sprinkle some around the inside of the bathtub or shower. Use a damp rag or soft scrubbing brush to wash away any grease, grime, or soap scum. Rinse off well with warm water and wipe dry.
  • Use a small scoop in hot water to freshen up dishcloths, toilet brushes, or mops.
  • Freshen drains – add a small scoop down the drain then follow with boiling hot water.
*Safety –  as always, with any cleaning products – don’t ingest it, don’t eat it, and keep it out of reach of children. If you are sensitive to any of these ingredients then wear gloves or other protective wear as you deem necessary.

doTERRA DISHWASHING LIQUID

Lemon Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, and Cinnamon (500 ml)

  1. Australian made
  2. No synthetic preservatives
  3. No artificial fragrances
  4. No artificial colours

  6. Naturally antibacterial and antiseptic
  7. 100% recyclable packaging

  9. Gentle on skin

You may have experienced other low-tox dishwashing liquids in the past where there are barely any bubbles or bubbles that don’t last very long.

This dishwashing liquid doesn’t contain any nasty ingredients AND it also has lots of bubbles that last the entire wash.

Low-tox doesn’t get any easier!

👉🏻 Turn the dishwashing liquid into a toilet cleaner

When the bottle is almost empty, fill it up with filtered water and then squirt it around the toilet bowl and clean your toilet.

👉🏻 Turn the dishwashing liquid into another cleaning spray

Add a teaspoon to a spray bottle and top with filtered water (and some good cleaning essential oils if you have them) and use to clean:

  • Shower
  • Toilet
  • Bath
  • Benches

👉🏻 Turn the dishwashing liquid into a stain remover

Got clothes with oil stains you’re struggling to remove?

Squirt a little of the dishwashing liquid onto the stain and, using a soft-headed toothbrush, give the stain a little scrub and let sit for a few hours before you add it to your washing load*.

*Be sure to patch test first in an inconspicuous area as some fabrics may be more sensitive than others.

LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THEM…

As stated above we are happy with the ingredients as being good low-tox options for the non-DIY’ers.

If you want to check out the ingredients for each individual product, then click on the ‘read more here’ buttons under each product for the product information pages from doTERRA.

The fact that they are made and packaged in Australia using Australian essential oils is an even bigger plus for us!

Packaging

All the bottles and containers are re-usable and re-fillable and essential oil safe. Wash out in hot soapy water are reuse in other areas around the house. The powder tub could be upcycled to store garage items like screws or nails, or in kids bedrooms for crayons, lego, playdough or hairbands. Upcycle the spray bottles to use in other DIY recipes such as air freshener or room sprays, or refill with other recipes as stated above. The dish liquid bottle is great for kids craft and diy paints.

These are just a few options, but I am sure there are dozens more ways to use these bottles and tubs before throwing them in the recycle bin.

Refill Options

We know it would be super useful for doTERRA to bring out the refills for these products, especially the surface spray.

We don’t have confirmation on anything as yet, but we are hoping this is something doTERRA will be considering for the future.

Price Point

We totally understand that they are more expensive than other reportedly ‘green’ choices at the supermarket, but here’s the thing…

Those so-called ‘green’ choices, in our opinion, aren’t really ‘green’ at all when you consider their ingredients.  We are yet to find a truly clean brand of cleaning products at the supermarket.

Also, we believe our health is worth the extra few dollars and so is the health of our entire family.

That’s why we have broken down the price for each product so you can see just how inexpensive it can be from a cost-per-use perspective.

What we spend on doTERRA, we save for in other ways, such as DIY’ing:

  • Other cleaning products (ie. cleaning paste)
  • Hand wash
  • Body wash

And by using these products in lots of ways, there’s no need to buy multiple products, saving even more money.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall we are happy with these products and use them as part of our cleaning routines. Give them a try and see what you think.
