I know this might sound vain, but I absolutely love having a tan. As kids, we would run around all day in the sun and I would have one of the best tans going around, comparing tan lines with my friends ….come on, fess up, you did it as well. I remember laying on the trampoline till I was pretty much cooked, just to get extra tanned…. #SOWRONG!!
I must admit that I am blessed with naturally olive skin (thanks to our Polish history) and this helps me tan really easily, but thanks to ‘bloody skin cancer’, I don’t lay out in the sun anymore and I always cover up (slip, slop, slap as they say). I am super lucky that I have never had any type of cancer scares (touch wood), but our mum has had a few spots removed and so has my sister-in-law, so I am now the ‘sunscreen police’. I have bottles everywhere, in the car, my sports bag, the kids school bags etc.
So, can you see my dilemma – I love being tanned but I don’t lay out in the sun anymore. What do I do?
THE ANSWER – FAKE IT!!
Let me tell you I have faked it over and over again. I have bought the supermarket brands, the more expensive brands and even a few super expensive brands. That was until I took notice of exactly what was in them!! OMG! #NotCool #Gross
I had followed Eco Tan on Instagram for a quite a while, I had checked out all the before and after pictures, but still remained a bit skeptical. It was the end of winter and I realised just how pale I was looking, so I took the plunge and bought a bottle of Invisible Tan and I was instantly hooked. It was an answer (from the heavens above) to my tanning withdrawals. I was so impressed, right from the start. After around 6 months I finally convinced Jo to start stocking it in our Additive-Free Lifestyle store. She wasn’t really interested in stocking a fake tanner, so it took a bit of sisterly nagging, but I finally convinced her that this stuff rocks and we need to tell everyone about it.
The entire range of Eco Tan products are
AUSTRALIAN MADE – CERTIFIED ORGANIC – VEGAN – CRUELTY-FREE – NON TOXIC
The amount of beauty awards this range of products has won is a little insane, but we can totally see why. Let me share my insights into this incredible tanning range.
Cacao Tanning Mousse
If I am honest my favourite is the Tanning Mousse, followed closely by Invisible Tan. I apply the Mousse after having my morning shower (and exfoliating really well) then leave it on all day and have another shower before going to bed. The Mousse only needs around one hour to start developing. It has a small amount of bronzer in it, so you actually see an instant result, which I love. The longer you leave it to develop, the darker you will get, but you can wash it off after as little as one hour.
Generally, for my skin, I look like I have just spent a week in Fiji after only one application. This lasts me around a week.
My favourite thing about the Mousse is that it smells like chocolate. There is not a single ounce of fake-tan smell. Both my teenage daughters use this product as well. It is super easy to apply and I love that I don’t need to worry about the chemicals in it as they are all natural or organic. Oh, and it dries nearly instantly, which is great on busy mornings.
Invisible Tan
Invisible Tan has never left me orange, never let me down and leaves my skin feeling super soft and hydrated. This is perfect for those with slightly warmer skin tones or those wanting to maintain a longer tan. It won’t stain clothes and is my husbands favourite (yep he’ll kill me for writing that). I have applied this at night on many occasions and it has never stained my sheets (and I wouldn’t do this with the Mousse as this does leave a light stain on sheets as it has a bronzer in it).
It is super fast drying, so you can apply in the morning (or right before going to bed) and then get dressed almost right away. It also doesn’t leave that ‘sticky’ feeling like a lot of tanners.
It is also perfect to use as a moisturiser every few days to maintain that golden glow.
Winter Skin
For me, I generally use Winter Skin as a top-up, especially in summer. This is because my main bits, like legs, arms, neck and shoulders are already tanned from lots of outside walking, netball and gardening, so I don’t need a heavy tanner, I just need a ‘top up’. Winter Skin is a gradual tanner and it just gives me that bit of ‘extra glow’. However, in the middle of winter, you could use this daily so you don’t end up looking like Casper the Ghost!
If you have a pale complexion then Winter Skin is the recommended product, over Invisible Tan or the Mousse, but this is totally a personal choice.
Face Tan Water
The other stuff I love, and this is fast becoming my ‘new’ favourite product, is the Face Water. I use this every few days, especially if we are going out to a special event. I apply it at night, before going to bed, and wake up the next day with a tan. It’s like magic, I promise!
It has a mild smell right out of the bottle, but this fades once on the skin. The other reason I love this product is that I use it to ‘touch up’ areas. I often have very bad sock marks, so I will use Face Water, on a cotton ball, to touch up around my feet. This allows me to apply it directly to the areas needed and I don’t end up with ‘orange ankles’.
Nothing Orange about Eco Tan!
No one wants to turn orange using self tanners. I can promise that I have never turned into an Oompa Loompa using Eco Tan. I use it daily, and still no orange. Gotta love that!!
I let me teenage girls use ALL of the products and I don’t care how much they lather on. There is not one (yep, not one) single ingredient that is harmful to our bodies. This is the first organic fake tanner, on the Australian market, that received certification from the Organic Food Board. It is also Certified Toxic Free by Safe Cosmetics Australia and is 100% Cruelty Free.
I absolutely love this stuff and can’t recommend it highly enough, if you have ever used it, please leave us a comment below (or even better, please head to that specific item and leave a review on the actual product) as we would love for you to share your thoughts with us (and everyone else).
Happy tanning
