This playdough recipe is so light and fluffy and it makes a decent size batch. It should last a couple of weeks if you store it in an airtight container as soon as the kids finish playing with it. You can also store it in the fridge to give you a few extra days.
We love to mix some essential oils into the playdough for a lovely added aroma. Given there is a risk that children could eat the playdough, only use essential oils that are listed on the bottle as being safe for flavouring use. A great option would be lavender or patchouli, given that they are calming to the mind and body.
We also use non-toxic, all-natural food colours. Anything we put on our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream, so we use the Hopper range all-natural food colours. Unfortunately, synthetic dyes use petroleum or coal tar as the raw stock which is something we don’t want on our kid’s skin, or in their mouth or body.
For this recipe, we used the one from the Cremé of Tartar box but tailored it to the Thermomix style of cooking. I also used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil, but you could use olive oil if you like.
It is no secret that we love our doTERRA oils, and part of that love is because the oils that can be used for flavouring use are 100% food-grade oils. Personally, we would not trust any other brand to be food-grade and as safe as doTERRA, so please, if you use another brand of oils you will need to ensure they are of the highest quality and approved for use within food.
