“Pharmaceutical Warnings: Despite careful inspection, some bones may remain” ? ? SAY WHAT???!!!
This is the actual warning written on a container of Coles Laundry Booster. This completely grosses us out! It’s also not completely transparent as to what the ingredients are. We know 280g are sodium percarbonate, oh and there may be bones, but what is the remaining 720g made up of?
We have contacted Coles to find out what the bones are but have not received a response as at the time of publishing this recipe.
But here’s what we do know. Off-cuts of meat and bones are collected from butchers, supermarkets, meatworks etc. and taken to rendering plants where they are then rendered down. They are then used in cosmetics, soaps, personal care products, to name a few, and possibly cleaning products.
Here’s a great way to avoid your clothes soaking in bone fragments. Give this recipe a try instead!
You can double, triple or quadruple this recipe if you like. You will just need a bigger tub to store it in.
Source your ingredients in bulk to make it cheaper.
TIP – Be careful when working with raw ingredients and use any safety precautions as advised on their individual packets.

Does the water need to be hot. I worry about shrinkage and colour runs
It works better with hot water, we haven’t had any issue using hot water but just make sure to soak with like colours.
Hi
How do you stop it from going hard when made up!!!
If it goes hard you can just whiz it up in the blender. Try and make sure it’s not in a moisture prone area.
Hi would you use all of this to soak a set of clothes or does this last a while ? Seems like a lot of soaker . Thanks
You only need to use 1/4 to 1/2 a cup at a time so this will give you plenty of uses.
Is there a supermarket washing powder that is ok??
So far there isn’t a supermarket option that is perfect in our eyes. We sometimes use Eco Store, but this isn’t a perfect option.
Thank you for the recipe. Where can I purchase the borax and the sodium percarbonate please
As stated in the post, you can purchase them from Vitalia online.
Can you use this as a washing powder in washing machine or only a soaker
Only as a stain remover/soaker, it’s a natural alternative to your store bought stain remover powders. It will strip wash your clothes, you will still need to clean your clothes after they have been strip washed.
What is the first ingredient & where do you find it please?
Sodium percarbonate is a natural bleach. As stated in the post you can obtain your ingredients from Vitalia online.
Hi :) how long should it soak for? Thank you :)
We generally soak them overnight, but just keep checking back until the stain has gone or brightness restored.
OMG!! This is the best Laundry Soak I have ever used. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. Love it!! I am now making it for all my friends and family.
