Ok, let’s talk instant gravy – are you ready for it because I know everyone loves it. Don’t shoot the messenger. I can not find any instant gravy tin in the supermarket without MSG, and/or caramel food colour. There’s absolutely no real food in instant gravy, it’s like pouring a chemical cocktail over your delicious meal you’ve just made.
Tracey and I live for gravy, in fact I’ve been known to eat gravy on fish before. I used to have it on every meal, basically 7 nights a week. I used to pour instant gravy into my daughters baby mash from probably 12 months old, you know, just to give it a bit of extra ‘yummy’ flavour. I had no idea what was in one of these tins, and neither do thousands and thousands of others. It saddens me to think I was feeding my baby MSG and artificial ingredients linked to headaches, skin irritations, restlessness and I didn’t even know it! Was it her fault that she couldn’t get to sleep that night, or was it the food I was feeding her?
Please, I encourage you to make your own, it’s as fast as supermarket gravy and our version is packed with hearty, good for you ingredients. Bone broth is so amazingly good for your gut health, your bones, skin, hair and immune system. It’s affordable, delicious and I’m sure you will love it.
You will need some bone broth to make our instant gravy, any flavour will work.

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. corn flour or tapioca starch
- 4 tbsp. bone broth powder
- pinch salt
- 1 1/2 c water
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a pot or frying pan and whisk until well combined and there are no lumps - using a frying pan that has cooked meat or chicken will add flavour to your gravy.
- Cook over medium heat until thick, approx 3 -5 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid lumps and add more water if it gets too thick.
Tastes better than anything from a tin or box. Will never be using the instant kind of gravy again. Love using the bone broth powders in lots of my casserole & slow cooker meals too.
I love gravy and love the taste of this bone broth gravy! I often make it in frypan after cooking meat which helps clean the pan and adds extra flavour
Awesome and thanks so much for the review :)
is the water cold or boiling before microwaving?
Either way will work, if I don’t have any hot water from cooking veggies then I use cold water, you’ll just have to adjust the cooking time, obviously if you use hot water it won’t take as long in the microwave :)
I don’t understand…your beef bone broth’s first ingredient is maltodextrin which is a chemical that causes migraines in many people.
The maltodextrin we talk about is in the ingredients found in store-bought powdered gravy, not in the ingredients listing in our recipe.
First time making this gravy. Yum!
Can left overs be stored in fridge or freezer pls? Thanks
Both :)
What broth powder is best for this or can I use my homemade broth paste?
Can certainly use your own homemade broth paste! :)
