Here’s a simple recipe that you can use as an additive-free vegemite alternative. Unfortunately, the popular spread is full of additives such as yeast extract and caramel III, but never fear because this is a great alternative.
However, it doesn’t taste the same as vegemite but we have been able to switch our kids over without issue. But if you do have trouble maybe mix 1/4 into a jar of Vegemite. Next time go 1/2 and 1/2 until eventually, you’ve got the better alternative.
This recipe is really versatile so you can increase or decrease the ingredients to get the flavour profile that you want.
Some Woolies (but not all) sell black tahini. Otherwise, you should be able to get it from other places like IGA, health food stores, or online from Part & Parcel. Use code additive-free for 10% off your first order at Part & Parcel.
A big thank you to our beautiful staff member Sherilyn for letting us share this recipe. We don’t hold any credit!!
