How do you buy Australian essential oils and support Australian essential oil businesses?

First off, we love… love… love that people are using essential oils because they are such a great investment in your health and wellness.

We also love that people are wanting to support Australian businesses because this is something we will always go out of our way to do, especially if that’s also supporting small family-owned businesses and directing our hard-earned dollars back into the Australian economy.

Here’s where we have an issue, especially when it comes to the pushback we get about buying doTERRA, which is the essential oil brand we love, recommend, sell, and have used for many many years now…

Yes… doTERRA is not an Australian-owned company.  It’s an American company, owned by some of the most amazing people we have ever had the privilege to meet.  However, it is worth noting that doTERRA sources its essential oils from all over the world.  In fact, they source their oils predominantly from third-world countries.  They source their oils from where they best indigenously grow to create the most potent oils with the greatest medicinal benefits.

This also includes sourcing oils from Australia… yes, you read that right.

doTERRA sources many oils from Australia which are then shipped and sold worldwide, thus bringing a huge injection to the Australian economy.

doTERRA is a big foreign company, how can they possibly support Australian small businesses?

This is a really big misconception that because they are American, it’s just supporting an American business.  In fact, this could not be further from the truth!

doTERRA supports essential oil supply chains right across Australia.

We had the privilege of travelling to Kununurra in northern Western Australia in 2022 on a co-impact sourcing trip with doTERRA to check out the Sandalwood plantations.

We got to see first-hand the impact these plantations have not only on the Kununurra economy, but the amazing sustainable and regenerative farming practices in place, and the staff they employ.

This is just one oil of many that doTERRA sources from Australia, including:

Having mass plantations of all oils in one place/country doesn’t create the best quality oils. It just simply doesn’t.

The other thing to consider is yes, there are some Australian-owned essential oil companies out there, but we can bet your bottom dollar that all their oils are not sourced/grown in Australia… it’s just not possible.

The other important thing to understand is that when you purchase doTERRA essential oils through someone like us, you are supporting our small business.  We’re two mums trying to earn an honest living and put food on our families’ tables just like any other small business out there.

AND we also employ people who are in Australia as well so it has a flow-on effect that helps lots of lives.

You are also supporting all the employees at the doTERRA Australia head office in Melbourne and all their warehousing staff both in Melbourne and Western Australia.

Not to mention doTERRA produces an entire cleaning range of products as well as shampoo and conditioner bars which are all Australian-made. This then supports those manufacturing businesses and all their staff and families.

We also know that doTERRA is looking into manufacturing more and more of its consumable products here in Australia to further widen the net.

So… given we are passionate about supporting Australian businesses, we don’t feel guilty at all about buying from doTERRA because we have seen first-hand the thousands and thousands of lives that reap the benefits right here in Australia.

Global Impact

doTERRA is the largest manufacturer of essential oils in the world. As stated above, they predominantly source their oils from third-world countries.

Not only are they supporting Australian businesses but they are also supporting small farms and impoverished communities right across the world.

Knowing that my money goes to support communities and farmers in third-world countries that are working so hard to put food in their babies’ mouths… well it’s a no-brainer for us!
