In this episode of The Whole Circle we talk to Irena Macri, she is an amazing person, a keen traveller and a Paleo advocate. We loved this interview and chat about a lot of things, but mostly we talk to her about how to eat healthy while travelling.

What is Paleo? Irena explains that it’s a wholefood diet, free from grains, processed food, seed oils. Basically, it’s a diet “free from crap”. Irena has an amazing approach to food and whilst she takes her health (and her food) seriously, she will also enjoy that pizza while in Italy. She also loves her coffee and realises that this is not a traditional paleo drink. In fact, Irena admits to an 80/20 paleo way, and this works for her.

How do we prepare our grains & legumes to make them easier to digest? Irena explains what grains are and how they can affect our digestive system. Soaking your grains helps with removing the GI and helps our gut and digestive system.

Stresswe talk about stress and how to avoid it, especially while travelling. Did you know that 80% of digestive issues may be related to stress?

How do you eat so well while on the road? Irena goes into great detail during the show, however, to give you a bit of a rundown, here are her top 5 tips:

  1. Research the destination to learn a little about the traditional foods.
  2. Have a few things prepared to eat while travelling.
  3. Don’t be so harsh on yourself when you indulge in something you normally wouldn’t.
  4. Try something you have never tried before (like the snail!).
  5. Relax and enjoy your holiday!
