We decided to make our own laundry soaker when we discovered the warning label on a Coles brand of laundry soaker. It goes something like this:
Product: Coles Ultra Booster Plus Everyday Soaker
Active Ingredients: Sodium Percarbonate 280g/kg
Pharmaceutical Warnings: Despite careful inspection, some bones may remain
SAY WHAT?!?! 🤢
This is the actual warning written on this Coles product. This completely grosses us out! It’s also not completely transparent as to what the ingredients are. We know 280g are sodium percarbonate, oh and there may be bones, but what is the remaining 720g made up of?
Despite contacting them, we have been unable to ascertain any further information about the potential for bones in their product, nor what the remaining 720g are made up of.
But here’s what we do know, off-cuts of meat and bones are collected from butchers, supermarkets, meat-works etc. and taken to rendering plants where they are then rendered down and used in costmetics, soaps, personal care products, to name a few, and possibly cleaning products in this case. It could also mean that this laundry booster was created in a plant where these rendering products were used.
Here’s a great way to avoid your clothes soaking in bone fragments. Give this recipe a try instead.
If soaking large items such as bedsheets and towels you can use the bathtub. Just adjust the ratios to suit. You can also use a top loader machine.
Take care if soaking dark colours as it may fade them. It is best to let the water cool down slightly before adding in any darks.
This is great to use on quick dry running tops, tradies clothing and active wear.
We love it for soaking tea towels, school socks, white school shirts, bed linens and so much more.
Cottons, linens and other delicates may require more care when soaking, always refer to care instructions on individual items.
Always read the clothing labels prior to any washing and/or soaking.
You can double, triple or quadruple this recipe if you like, you’ll just need a bigger tub to store it in.
